Enhancing Rice Yield: Care Tips for Rice During the Flowering Stage from Baconco
25 Nov 2024
The flowering stage is a crucial time that determines the final yield of the rice season. Let’s explore the important notes and suitable product range with Baconco!
Why does proper care for rice during the flowering stage help increase yield and quality?
Caring for rice in general, and specifically the OM 34 variety, during the flowering stage is a key factor that determines the final yield and quality of the season. During this stage, the rice plant uses all its nutrients on nourishing the grains, so proper care will help the rice plant reach its maximum potential. Specifically:
- Minimize nutrient competition: During the flowering stage, the rice plant requires a lot of nutrients to nourish the grains. Proper care, especially ensuring adequate water and nutrients, will help the rice plant concentrate its resources on forming and developing grains, limiting nutrient competition among the plant's parts.
- Increase pollination and grain setting: The flowering stage is when the rice plant undergoes pollination. Good care, particularly ensuring sufficient water and favorable environmental conditions, will enhance the effectiveness of the pollination process, increasing the grain setting rate.
- Prevent pests and diseases: The flowering stage is when rice plants are most susceptible to pests and diseases such as rice blast, grain discoloration, and brown planthopper. Proper care, including timely pest control, will help protect the rice plants from harmful agents, ensuring yield and quality.
- Enhance grain quality: Proper care during the flowering stage helps the rice grains develop fully, become firm, and reduce the likelihood of being empty, thereby improving the quality of the rice. Providing adequate potassium at this time is crucial, helping the rice grains become sturdy and increasing their resistance to pests and adverse weather conditions.
- Increase grain weight: Providing adequate nutrition and water during the flowering stage will help rice grains grow larger and heavier, thereby increasing overall yield.
At this stage, farmers should not add more fertilizer to the plants. Fertilization should only occur during the tillering stage, from 45 to 48 days after sowing, after which fertilization should stop because the plants will have sufficient nutrients from tillering until flowering. During the tillering stage, do not apply fertilizer or any chemicals that affect the rice plants.
The process of applying nutritious fertilizer before and during the flowering stage
The process of applying sufficient nutrition before and during the flowering stage is crucial for rice plants to form and nourish grains effectively. Below is the procedure for applying adequate nutrition for rice during the flowering stage, helping farmers achieve high yields and good rice quality.

FERTILIZATION:
Use two products: NPK Con Co 25-15-5 + 3.5Ca + 2S AVS and NPK Con Co 20-10-15 + 4.2Ca + 2.5S AVS. These products provide a complete and balanced supply of essential nutrients for rice plants at each development stage. Notably, the products utilize the exclusive USP (Urea Super Phosphate) technology from France, available only at Baconco.
Exclusive French USP technology only available at Baconco
USP helps raise soil pH (reduce acidity) due to the high calcium content in the products; it enables plants to utilize nitrogen more effectively (nutrients in complex form are less prone to loss); strengthens plants to reduce lodging and limits pest and disease damage. The application method is as follows (amount of fertilizer used for 5,500m2):
- First application (10 days after sowing): apply 65kg of NPK Con Co 25-15-5 + 3.5Ca + 2S AVS
- Second application (22 days after sowing): apply 85kg of NPK Con Co 25-15-5 + 3.5Ca + 2S AVS
- Tiller initiation (40 days after sowing): apply 100kg of NPK Con Co 20-10-15 + 4.2Ca + 2.5S AVS
Both formulas contain USP and AVS technology.
USP is Baconco's proprietary technology in Vietnam. With its high calcium and sulfur content and slow nitrogen release capability, USP provides many positive impacts:
- For the soil, USP helps reduce acidity (pH), thereby improving soil fertility, which is the most important asset for farmers.
- For crops, USP strengthens the stems, enhances vitality, leading to fewer plants falling over and reducing the need for pesticides.
AVS promotes root development and the plant's ability to absorb nutrients, thereby enhancing growth and strength during the season.
PRE-PLANTING TREATMENT (2 days after sowing):
- Weed management: Spray 0.5 liters of Super Kosphit
- Support root development and seedling vigor: Spray 0.5 liters of Cobio Root
PEST AND DISEASE CONTROL:
- 25 - 40 days after sowing: manage leaf blast by spraying 200g CO-TRICY
- 45 - 60 days after sowing (during heading):
- Striped spots, leaf sheath shedding, stiff plants, and panicle development: Spray 0.5 liters of CO-TRIHEX 280SC
- Nourishing the panicle (green leaves, thick leaves, upright leaves): Spray 0.5 liters of Cofoli CALIMAG + 0.5 liters of Cofoli ZIN50
- Bacterial leaf blight: Spray 250ml CO-MYCIN
